Correction: Cells of the synovium in rheumatoid arthritis. Chondrocytes
After publication of our recent article [1], we noticed an error in the third sentence of the third paragraph of the section entitled, 'Joint inflammation and cartilage remodeling in RA'. This sentence should read: ADAMTS-5 is expressed constitutively, whereas ADAMTS-4 is more prominently regulated by inflammatory cytokines.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the inflammatory joint diseases in a heterogeneous group of disorders that share features of destruction of the extracellular matrices of articular cartilage and bone. The underlying disturbance in immune regulation that is responsible for the localized joint pathology results in the release of inflammatory mediators in the synovial fluid and synovium that di...
متن کاملCells of the synovium in rheumatoid arthritis. Dendritic cells
Dendritic cells are the major antigen-presenting and antigen-priming cells of the immune system. We review the antigen-presenting and proinflammatory roles played by dendritic cells in the initiation of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and atherosclerosis, which complicates RA. Various signals that promote the activation of NF-kappaB and the secretion of TNF and IL-1 drive the maturation of dendritic ...
متن کاملCells of the synovium in rheumatoid arthritis. B cells
There is significant evidence arising from experimental models that autoantibodies play a key role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory arthritis. In addition to autoantibody production, B cells efficiently present antigen to T cells, produce soluble factors, including cytokines and chemokines, and form B cell aggregates in the target organ of rheumatoid arthritis. In this review we analyze the ...
متن کاملThe Synovium in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease targeting multiple joints. The synovium is the primary site of the inflammatory process, which if untreated leads to irreversible damage to the adjacent cartilage and bone. It is now well established that autoantibodies that are characteristic of RA, including rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-citrulluninated protein antibodies (ACPA), are...
